Auburn City Viewer Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 14, 2026

The City of Auburn ("us", "we", or "our") develops, operates, and maintains the mobile application and progressive web application for Auburn City Viewer (hereinafter referred to as the "Service").

This page informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use and disclosure of personal data when you use our Service and the choices you have associated with that data.

We use your data to provide and improve the Service. By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

Definitions

  • Service

Service means the mobile application (Auburn City Viewer) and web application developed and maintained by the City of Auburn.

  • Personal and Sensitive User Data

While using our Service, we may ask you to provide us with certain personally identifiable information that can be used to authenticate you and provide services ("Personal Data"). Personally identifiable information includes:

    • Library card barcode and PIN
    • City account credentials
    • Optional remember-me tokens (for keeping you signed in)

This data is only collected when you choose to sign in to access library or city services through the app.
Data is only used for app functionality (e.g., viewing library holds, checking account status, taking actions on your account) and is transmitted securely over TLS/SSL encryption.
Your credentials are not shared with any third parties beyond the required systems (such as the Polaris Library System for library accounts).

  • Usage Data

Usage Data is data collected automatically either generated by the use of the Service or from the Service infrastructure itself (for example, web server access logs).

Information Collection and Use

We collect several different types of information for various purposes to provide and improve our Service to you.

Types of Data Collected

Personal Data

When you choose to sign in, we collect your user IDs and credentials (such as your library barcode/PIN or city account login). This information is used strictly to provide you with personalized app functionality and account access.

Usage Data

We may also collect information that your browser or device sends whenever you visit our Service ("Usage Data"). This Usage Data may include information such as your computer's or mobile device's Internet Protocol address (e.g. IP address), browser type, browser version, the pages of our Service that you visit, the time and date of your visit, and the time spent on those pages.

Tracking & Cookies Data

We use session management mechanisms (like short-lived session tokens and optional long-lived remember-me tokens) to keep you signed in if you choose. We do not use third-party tracking cookies or behavioral tracking technologies.

Use of Data

The City of Auburn uses the collected data for the following purposes:

  • To provide and maintain our Service
  • To manage your session and authenticate your access to library and city services
  • To detect, prevent and address technical issues

Retention and Deletion of Data

The Service only retains the minimum amount of data necessary. Session data is ephemeral and is deleted when you sign out or when the session expires. If you opt-in to the "remember me" feature, a revocable token is stored securely. You can delete this data at any time by signing out of the application, which immediately revokes the token on our servers.

Transfer of Data

Your information, including Personal Data, is processed securely by City of Auburn systems located in the United States.

Disclosure of Data

Legal Requirements

The City of Auburn may disclose your Personal Data in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to:

  • To comply with a legal obligation
  • To protect and defend the rights or property of the City of Auburn
  • To prevent or investigate possible wrongdoing in connection with the Service
  • To protect the personal safety of users of the Service or the public

Security of Data

The security of your data is important to us. All authentication and data transmission occurs over secure encrypted connections (TLS/SSL). We strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your Personal Data, and we do not persist your passwords in plaintext.

Links to Other Sites

Our Service may contain links to other sites that are not operated by us. If you click a third party link, you will be directed to that third party's site. We strongly advise you to review the Privacy Policy of every site you visit.

Children's Privacy

Our Service is intended for a general audience (Everyone). We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children without verified parental consent outside of standard library account issuance policies handled in-person at the library.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page.
