Auburn Arts Association

The Auburn Arts Association (AAA) was founded as a nonprofit, volunteer, community-based arts organization in 1982. The AAA’s primary objectives are to promote arts education, encourage and support local artists and arts initiatives and to stimulate community interest in the arts.

The AAA provides quality arts experiences for students, professional opportunities for local artists and performers, technical assistance and financial support encouraging community-based arts initiatives, scholarships for talented community members, cooperative arts education projects, an exhibition program and a variety of arts services and social activities.

The AAA is governed by a board made up of local artists and business persons in the community. Membership is open to anyone, individual, student, senior, family, benefactor and corporate sponsors.

The AAA works hand-in-hand with the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center (JDCAC) to provide classes and summer camps in the visual arts, to present exhibitions in the Art Gallery, and to sponsor numerous workshops and events that benefit and enhance our community’s cultural life. Art Gallery

The Art Gallery at the JDCAC is coordinated by the AAA, providing the community with exhibition space for local and regional artists, a community gallery open daily to the public.

Gallery Hours
Monday - Friday 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Saturday 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Sunday: Closed

Gallery hours may vary depending on exhibition receptions and programs.

Upcoming Exhibition

Adventures in Art featuring the work of Chuck Hemard

The exhibition will be open to the public Aug. 31 - Sept. 4 from 12:30 - 9 p.m. The Adventures in Art program, held daily from 8 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., is not open to the public. For more info., see press release.

The JDCAC is honored to showcase the work of Chuck Hemard, a lifelong resident of the American South whose photography explores contemporary landscapes. His Pines Series, which documents remnants of old-growth longleaf pine forests across the Deep South, was published as a monograph by Daylight Books in 2018. Hemard is an associate professor in Auburn University's Department of Art and Art History.

The Color Show: Warm or Cool

September 17 to October 24

An exhibition of new and recent works limited to the use of either warm or cool colors.

The Auburn Arts Association is calling for local artists to enter the Color Show: Warm or Cool Exhibition at the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center. Area professional, student and amateur artists and craftpersons 18 years of age and older are eligible are invited to submit two works based on color palette from either a range of warm colors (red, yellow, orange) or those classified as cool colors (blue, green, purple) with the intentions of covering a harmonious unified look.

Various tints, tones, and shades of the selected warm or cool palette may be used. Works may be 2 or 3 dimensional. Subject matter, art medium, and technique are open.

All work must be wired and framed (no glass!) either with or without Plexiglas. All free-hanging wall pieces must have appropriate hanging means: wires, rods, hooks, etc.

Labels attached to the work should include Name, Address, Phone, Email, Title, and Price if for sale.

Entries are due by Friday, Sept. 11 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

November 5 to December 5

An exhibition featuring a variety of contemporary and traditional still lifes.

Artist's Harvest 2 - The Harvest Continues

Exhibition will be on view October 1 - 31 with a reception and market on October 22 from 5:30 - 7 p.m.

The Artist's Harvest 2: The Harvest Continues Exhibition will capture the autumnal rewards that we have sown. This exhibit will encompass the feelings of fall with a nod towards the spookiness of Halloween. It is free to enter, and open to artists of all mediums and styles. Art must be suitable for family-friendly environment.

Registration and artwork drop off for this show will be from Sept. 4 - 19 at the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center.
